Powering the Purchase: How Emerging Trends Impact Consumer Electronics

New research from Snapchat, Publicis Media, and NRG reveal how the latest consumer trends are reshaping consumer electronics purchases in 2025.

The global consumer electronics market is projected to reach a record high of $1.1 trillion by 2029.¹ What can be fuelling this growth? According to Snapchatters, 83% agree that because online purchasing for electronics has become so easy, they are buying more. And 92% agree that being able to do everything in one place online makes them want to shop more frequently.

To better understand the role of technological advancements in the purchase journey, Snapchat partnered with Publicis Media and NRG to conduct a global research study and survey over 3,000 electronics shoppers (13-60 YO) across five markets (US, UK, CA, KSA, FR). Our research unveiled the role of social, augmented reality (AR), and creators in driving these purchases.

Social platforms spark the path to purchase

From viral product drops to creator reviews, social platforms are a major catalyst in consumer electronics discovery. 78% of Snapchatters say social is where they typically first learn about new products and brands, which is 1.6x greater than non-Snapchatters.

It’s not just product awareness that social platforms deliver. 83% of Snapchatters turn to social platforms to help identify the best deals and promotions, and 76% turn to social for direct brand engagement to get more info around potential purchases.

Social has also become a key purchase destination, especially for Snapchatters. They are 2.9x more likely to make electronics purchases on social platforms compared to non-Snapchatters. Furthermore, 60% of Snapchatters are making purchases on social platforms directly from brand posts or ads, and 63% are purchasing through links on social platforms sent by friends and family.

Even after a purchase, tech shoppers continue to engage on social media to share and review their new products. Snapchatters are 2.1x more likely than non-Snapchatters to post or share photos of their new electronics on social.

Brand tip: In 2025, influence is currency, and brands need to have a social presence at every stage of the purchase journey.

Creators amplify brand trust and credibility

Snapchatters’ trust in creator recommendations continues to grow. 75% agree that they consider creator recommendations on social as trustworthy as those from friends and family, which is 1.8x greater than non-Snapchatters. In fact, 81% follow creators specifically for their electronics recommendations. Creators are clearly influential, guiding consumers through product upgrades, offering reviews, and advising on worthwhile purchases.

Brand tip: Brands should leverage creators to influence shoppers looking for electronics inspiration and the latest gadgets to buy. Check out some of the way brands can tap into creators on Snapchat!

AR makes shopping seamless

Tools such as AR product try-ons help consumers visualise and assess new products, which speeds up the purchase journey. 72% of Snapchatters agree that ‘AR advertisements capture my attention more effectively than traditional ads.’

75% of Snapchatters agree that ‘AR features that allow me to visualize products and help me discover new tech items.’ For example, Snapchatters can visualize products like a watch on their wrist or a TV on their wall, without the need for an in-store visit. This provides confidence when buying, which reduces the need to return an online purchase.

Brand tip: Brands should leverage AR Lenses on Snapchat to drive awareness and purchase behaviors amongst electronics buyers. Treat AR as conversion drivers, not just discovery gimmicks. Check out how you can create Lenses here.
