Snap Chatter – August 2018: Eid al-Adha Celebrations, Box Office Hits, and More “Swae” Trends

As summer comes to an end, Snapchatters remember music icon Aretha Franklin, celebrate Eid al-Adha, and stay swae.

Global: Trending Topics

The most notable trending topic around the world in August was the celebration of Eid al-Adha, which topped the charts in Australia, Canada, Germany, Netherlands, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and the United Kingdom. Meanwhile, Snapchatters from Brazil, Costa Rica, and the United States spent August celebrating their family members with Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, and National Sister’s Day, respectively. Independence Day was the top trending topic in Cote D’Ivoire and Jamaica.

US: Trending Topics

Eid al-Adha held momentum in the US as well, showing up in the number two spot behind National Sister’s Day.

US: Trending Entertainment

Movie releases dominated trending entertainment in August. Netflix’s To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before was top trending, with horror film Slender Man as a close second. Crazy Rich Asians, the novel-turned-movie, came in third.

US: Trending Celebrities

Nicki Minaj’s hit “Barbie Dreams” and Travis Scott’s release of “Astroworld” had Snapchatters buzzing. Also top of mind were the passings of the Aretha Franklin and John McCain this month.

Canada Spotlight: Trending Topics

This month we’re taking a look at Snapchatters in Canada. In August, they were celebrating Eid al-Adha alongside countries around the world.
