Navigating the Age of AI: How AI is Rewiring Human Behavior
Global research from Snapchat, Ipsos, and WPP reveals how AI is moving beyond utility into human connection — and how brands, creators, and marketers can build trust in an AI-mediated world.

How AI is Rewiring Human Behavior
New global research from Snapchat, Ipsos, and WPP reveals how AI isn't replacing human connection, it's powering it. Discover how brands, creators, and marketers can build trust in an AI-mediated world.
AI Has Shifted from Experimentation to Habit
AI is no longer a futuristic novelty; it has firmly entrenched itself as a foundational layer of daily life. To investigate how AI is reshaping digital communication, social dynamics, and creativity, Snapchat partnered with Ipsos and WPP. Together, we surveyed 4,261 monthly AI consumers aged 18–44 across the US, UK, France, Saudi Arabia, and India, alongside 300 B2B experts (150 creators and 150 marketers) globally.
The results are clear: AI adoption is massive, with 48% of consumers using AI daily and 50% of creators and marketers calling it a core part of their routine. 1 Yet as AI becomes more ubiquitous, consumers are actively resisting automation in favor of nuanced, human-centric experiences. To succeed, brands must understand the five paradigms driving consumer behavior today.
AI has become a core catalyst for consumer engagement, especially among 18- to 44-year-olds. This joint research with Snap and Ipsos reinforces that the future of marketing lies at the intersection of human creativity and AI precision—allowing us to craft richer, more immersive brand stories at scale.

The 5 Emerging Paradigms of AI
1. The "Social Catalyst" Shift: AI is Re-wiring Human Social Dynamics
Contrary to fears that AI will isolate us, consumers actively resist replacing human interaction with artificial companionship. Instead, consumers are using AI as a social catalyst to enable even deeper human connections. Globally, 57% of consumers say they would rather use AI to improve their real friendships than have a relationship with an AI bot. 1 When finding the right words feels difficult, AI acts as a creative icebreaker:

On Snapchat, this behavior translates directly into real-world action: Snapchatters are 2.2x more likely to agree that AI helps their social life and 1.6x more likely to use AI to plan real-world activities. 1
Brand Takeaway 🤖⚡👥
Provide the Infrastructure for Connection: Partner with platforms that offer creative tools – like Branded GenAI Lenses or group chat prompts – that give users a reason to connect.
Power Real-World Moments: Build utility-driven AI that helps consumers plan outings, pick gifts, or break the ice, bridging the digital and physical divide.
2. The "Judgment-Free" Safety Net: AI is Seen as a Safe EQ Coach
Consumers are shifting from seeing AI as a mechanical tool used strictly for getting tasks done to an empathetic, high-EQ partner. Over 80% describe it as friendly and collaborative. Additionally, 74% view AI as a judgment-free space that can privately coach them in articulating complex feelings before sharing with peers. 1 However, users draw a clear line: They still find it "strange" when AI attempts to mimic a real person too closely. 1

Brand Takeaway 🗣️💬
Adopt a Playful, Lighthearted Tone: Leverage conversational AI like AI Sponsored Snaps to engage customers in low-stakes, entertaining ways (e.g., product finders, mood-based recommendations, or humorous quizzes).
Avoid the Uncanny Valley: Keep branded AI use cases transparent, delightful, and clearly distinct from human identities.
3. The “Value-to-Trust” Scale: AI is Creating New Trade-offs
Privacy today isn’t an absolute — it’s a sliding scale. Consumers aren't asking, "Is this private?" They’re asking, "Is this worth it?" The reality is that users will willingly trade data for personalized AI experiences when the immediate value is obvious. But that value exchange has boundaries. When hyper-personalization happens without permission, it instantly turns off your audience: 70% of consumers find personal data used in hyper-personalized AI ads to be intrusive, and 56% consider 100% AI-generated content to be "soulless." 1
Brand Takeaway ⚖️
Shift from Extracting Data to Earning It: Focus on high-comfort signals like current mood, context, or opt-in preferences rather than scraping private history.
Prioritize Human Comfort Over Technical Capability: Always keep the user in the driver's seat with clear opt-in controls.
4. The "Intimacy Barrier": AI Straddles a Fine Balance of Automation and Intrusion
Contrary to the hype, consumers don't want AI automating their entire lives. There is a clear "Intimacy Barrier" where helpful automation crosses into personal intrusion. Consumers value AI most when it simplifies complex life decisions and sparks discovery – not when it tries to automate their social or financial lives. People want an assistant, not an autonomous agent and 68% of consumers consider it a deal-breaker if an AI chatbot can’t instantly connect them to a real human. 1

Brand Takeaway 🤖🤝👤
Be "AI-Enabled, Not AI-Replaced": Use AI for smart alerts, recommendation engines, and fast customer service routing, but never hide behind a bot when a customer needs real empathy.
AI is the Nervous System, Humans are the Heart: Let AI power your brand's reflexes and speed, but ensure human customer service and human craft remain at the core of your customer relationships.
5. The Muse and the Mechanic: AI Is Not One-Size-Fits-All for B2B
B2B AI adoption isn't one-size-fits-all. The reality: marketers want a "Mechanic" (utility), while creators want a "Muse" (identity). Marketers lean on AI as a "Strategic Sounding Board" (51%), while creators are 1.6x more likely to use it as a "Social Sidekick." 1 But neither wants AI owning final execution — 63% of Marketers worry unrefined AI dilutes brand authenticity, while creators keep algorithms away from final assets to preserve genuine human craft. 1

Brand Takeaway 🔧🎨
Empower the "Muse" & "Mechanic": Enable marketers to use AI for strategic efficiency, and creators for ideation and visual effects.
Protect Human Craft & Transparency: Keep final execution human-led to safeguard brand authenticity, and disclose when content or interactions are AI-powered.
